ECOLOGIC MATERIALS

Image
Nowadays, A lot of architectures take into account ecologic materials; this means that they don't have a major impact on the environment. To build something that is recognized as an ecologic material we must consider that it must fulfill one of the following options: it must last a long period of time, durable it has to be reusable   it has to be recyclable  Most materials that follow these conditions are the naturals ones. Natural materials refer to ones that haven't been manufactured and are sustainable. 5 ecological materials are: Wood  This is an amazing material! It's: reusable durable natural  insulating (aïllant) sustainable We apply this material in various structures depending on the kind of wood that it is:  HARDWOOD: It's a heavier and denser material; applied in walls, ceilings, floors...  SOFTWOOD: Used for inner structures like doors, furniture...  Natural slate (pisarra) It's:...

SAVE THE EGG!

Image
My house is burning and the last possession I own is an egg... The only way to save the egg is by throwing it out the window; but how can I throw the egg without breaking it?

what options do we have?

The fire is getting closer, we need to act quickly! What options do we have to save the egg?  - Egg in a box: We can put the egg in a box full of newspaper  - Egg parachute:  we can use a parachute to slow down the fall  - Cushioning the egg: using soft materials as a cushion so the egg won't break.  - Eggshell: Building protection around the egg like a shell

Our egg design

It's better to have a backup plan than none... We had two ideas: Our first idea was to put protection around the egg. We drowned the egg in a bag of chickpeas and surrounded it with balls of newspaper. We also built 8 supports around the box because we didn't want the box breaking. Our other experiment consisted of burying the egg in a bag of flour and surrounding it with water; this way the impact would distribute within the water.

My budget

All the materials we used, we had around home; but if we were to put a price on them this would be our budget:

USE ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS

Image
Keep in mind, you have to use eco-friendly materials. You can also use plàstic; only if it's reused or recycled. To save the egg we did two experiments, so we used various materials:  - chickpeas: decomposable - newspaper: decomposable - 1 plastic box: recycled - flour: reused - 2 plastic bags: reused  - water

In conclusion...

Our first experiment didn't go as expected, but our second one worked pretty well.  The water worked as a cushion and even tough the bag broke the egg was hardly touched... We examinated the results and we had a tiny crack that could have been prevented if we had put more water in the bag
