ECOLOGIC MATERIALS

Nowadays, A lot of architectures take into account ecologic materials; this means that they don't have a major impact on the environment.

To build something that is recognized as an ecologic material we must consider that it must fulfill one of the following options:

  • it must last a long period of time, durable
  • it has to be reusable
  • it has to be recyclable
Most materials that follow these conditions are the naturals ones. Natural materials refer to ones that haven't been manufactured and are sustainable.

5 ecological materials are:

Wood

This is an amazing material!
It's:

  • reusable
  • durable
  • natural
  • insulating (aïllant)
  • sustainable
We apply this material in various structures depending on the kind of wood that it is:

HARDWOOD: It's a heavier and denser material; applied in walls, ceilings, floors...
SOFTWOOD: Used for inner structures like doors, furniture...

Natural slate (pisarra)

It's:
  • natural (mineral material)
  • durable
  • low thermal conductivity (conductivitat)
We apply this material in walls and roofs

Stone

It's:

  • natural (mineral)
  • durable
The stone can be adapted to all kind of construction.

Bamboo

Bambbo has quickly grown popularity in the modern arquitecture and designs, as it has a higher compresive strength than concrete or wood, low weight, it's sustainable, natural and durable.

Often used in bridges and houses

Ferrock

Ferrock is a new material quite similar to concrete; it's extremely environmentally friendly.  It absorbs CO2 in the process of drying, it's durable, strong and reusable.

Ferrock hasn't been applied in many constructions yet, but it's a structural material and it would be great to apply it to our constructions and look for a greener future.
